After wrapping up a family photoshoot in Monterey I hung back to take some candid photos of this little family heading back to the car. I find that there are some pretty precious moments just before and after a photoshoot.
I wanted to separate them from the background and foreground by opening the lens wide open and shooting from the long end of the lens. This makes them the only part of the photograph in focus. Later in post I added the vignette in photoshop.
The light was soft and beautiful as it had just set behind an overcast sky. It was quickly getting cold too. I composed the photograph to include the stairs in the distance, I felt it completed the story knowing where they were headed.
Here are the settings for the shot.
70-200mm f/2.8 L series lens shot at 200mm, aperture was set to f/2.8, the ISO was 200 and the shutter speed was set at 1/1000 of a second.
I hope this information is helpful.
