What you need to know about this photograph...

While at an amazing event in London some time ago I noticed this area behind the stage. The brick wall was painted with a thick glossy grey paint that reflected the light beautifully. I asked Ulorin if she would mind stepping behind the stage for a couple of photos.

I knew with the grey color of the paint and how reflective it was that I could bounce my on-camera flash off of the wall and onto Ulorin creating a big soft light. I wanted to include the Blue light reflecting off of the wall from behind her. To accomplish this I had to shoot with a slow shutter speed. I set the white balance to flash letting the blue light go even bluer. The aperture was wide open for the beautiful shallow depth of field. The lens was the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L series lens, pretty much my favorite lens for photographing parties and events.
Here are the settings I used.

ISO 250, f-stop 2.8, 1/15th of a second, Zoomed to 68mm

I hope you found this helpful.
